Alex vs. Math pt. 2

We just can't seem to get past multiplication. Not because he can't do it, or because it is too hard. We can't get past multiplication because Alex insists that without a multiplication chart he can't "do" it.

Today I gave him a blank multiplication chart and told him to fill it in. I told him that every Monday he can make a new chart to be used for the whole week, but that on Friday it goes into the trash. If he wants to use one the next week, he has to make one that Monday.

He is working on a chart now. He just said to me "Mom, I know what you are trying to accomplish with this." (Yes, he really talks like that.) "You are trying to make me remember how to multiply, and you think that I will remember if I have to fill in the chart each week. But I already know how to multiply. I just don't want to."

Maybe I should point out to him that he just said "Cool! I didn't know it was just counting by nines!"
